wow what a last 2 weeks, this intern ship at interactive intelligence is amassing. i have learned so much from how to apply real skills learned in school to how to make the processes work at the company and kinda start to see the big picture of how a national and well in this case a global company is ran. I got to get going but i wanted to give a brief update. on another note, as per Dr. Thomas Ho's request i did finish my slide share and i synced it to my audio presentation from that class. here is the link in case anyone is interested.

Graduation day, and I cannot say that It will come and go soon enough! I wanted today to be so special and grand, alas I have come down with a cold and my head is runny, I have a headache and well overall i feel pretty crappy. so its time to pump me with the RX drugs to help me get through the day and hopefully not feel half as bad. I wish this would have happened any other time than this weekend. I have not been sick in over a year, and go figure it happens when I have the chance to walk accost the stage with my graduating class.

well my girlfriend just came back inside and I made her coffee, I am off to figure out how to cope with this stuffy head, soar throat, and overall pain in my head and chest

good luck to all those who graduate today

WOW! who ever thought a device can change a persons life. I may have gotten sucked into this but the Droid has changed me. in the 2 days I have owned this phone I have gotten more functionality and use out of it all my previous phones combined. and the best part IT IS 100% free. well minus the monthly bill. if you are good at targeted searches you can get items like Pandora for music, Remote RDP for remote desktop , netmeter, speed test, sms backup, wifi analyzer, advanced task killer, slacker (another free music program ), and the best one so far EasyTeather! this program lets you use your phone as a mobile broad band card. so now my brand new laptop can be anywhere and be mobile, actually I was going to post a blog mobility just to prove i can do it and i think i will later. This phone has amassing potential i think if i can figure out how to pair a bluetooth keyboard to it would make it all the better. but that is the only idea i have so far for productivity aspect. not many complaints so far, only thing is it appears like all good operating systems it does have some applications that like to crash but i think it is how they were coded. and well for free what do you expect. but the ones i listed above come recommended by me to install. I will continue my quest to find the newest and latest free applications for the IT professional. until then Jacob signing off saying WOW. 2 days! and damn proud owner of a Droid

weekly blog 5-4-10

Ahhh Finally I presented my presentation in the CIT49900 class. I liked it, I feel I did a great job. My power point presentation could have had more flare but overall I think it was great. the presentation lasted about 25 minutes. plenty long enough to discuss the topic and compare the two countries. although I think that I may need to have included more on the Singapore infrastructure. I wanted to go way more in depth on so many different topics but I could not because I would have taken HOURS! just glazing over the topics felt odd but honestly it was pretty breathtaking, my mind was racing. actually that is why I am typing this blog currently because I wanted to organize my thoughts. The presentations that have been given so far are very nice I have learned a lot of things from other countries to local Indianapolis. I think I now understand to some limited extent the power of Social Media and Networking. you can make or break your life on this topic. especially using services such as Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Blogger, Diigo and other social services. and I have been convinced , Although semi reluctantly, that I need to use social media as a part of my daily life as to communicate and make it to where I can communicate my thoughts. I will continue to Post Blogs although probably not as much as I should. But rest assured I would like to continue to use the services I have learned about. and I will work on putting my own twist and finding my own nitch in the social world and until then Thanks a lot CIT49900

weekly blog 4-30-10

The dawn of a new day is upon me. I have almost successfully completed my paper. it has been 7 hours of almost non stop typing and referencing! and at last draft 15 is complete. that last and final revision of the paper I started for this project, I am taking a break from typing on the paper as to re collect my thoughts and prepare for the power point and the appropriate references. I was never good at references, if i had to admit that XD. I just hope that I find the proper way to cite my sources.

This semester is drawing to a close, and with that My degree also. I have finally gotten the word I am 100% sure I am receiving my Associates Degree in Computer Information Technology Networking or CIT: Networking for short.

I was supposed to also receive a Certificate in Information Security, but due to some class scheduling issues I will have to wait to get the certificate at the end of 2010 along with my Bachelors Degree in CIT: Networking

My next delema... is to continue education now or go to work full time. I think I have come to a compromise, I want to go for my Doctoral and eventually my PHD. but I need to take baby steps. I think that if I work in the work force for 2 to three years coupled with obtaining my certificates in A+ NET+ SEC+ CCNA, CCIE, CISSP, VCP, MCSE and other various related Technology Certs

so for now I will venture into the unknown with my internship at Interactive Intelligence and see where that takes me. Hopefully a Full time job and a bright future. I think I am on the right track to becoming a great assert. I only Hope that I can continue to learn for the rest of my life and then possibly later in life pursue becoming a professor so i can pass that knowledge on to others.

Well it has been a bit since I have written It is coming to the end of the semester and a lot is coming down to a crunch I got a lot of work still to do for the Broad Band project and I also have this huge Risk analysis Project due in another class. I get to do a fake interview with Bluefish Wireless on the 29th for my CIT310 class and I have to write a a paper over that. I work today from noon to 730pm. That kills the majority of the day for me. alas I need to make the day into a 26 hour day as to cram all the crap I need to finish into one day and get it worked out. I got a lot of Power point work to accomplish and I hope it is all going to get done. Well I got to get ready for work I will blog more later with an update later tonight about where I stand I hope, That is If i don't get too tied up in typing papers.

weekly blog 4-14-10

As I stretch and get up I look at the clock 6am again gosh, Monday through Friday I'm up by 530 to 6 am oogh lol. I am not so used to being up this early, but well it is necessary to succeed. Average day consists of taking my girlfriend to work then going to work myself then picking up my girlfriend then taking her home then I go to class. lol then once home bed time! lol as you can see not much free time. I cram it all in as tight as possible at the moment. today is an odd day I don't have to work today, so instead I'm at home writing up this document. I got a lot of school work to accomplish along the way. I hope I can cram it all in the free time slots I have otherwise I'll have to cut back a little on sleep and do more time at night on homework. well enough about the time issues. on to other news.

My old project of my XboX360* Mini Itx mod is almost done. It was hard to grasp the entire project at the start because I was going in blind with just this idea and no blueprints.

Currently I have the Box (case), board, cpu, ram, psu, and the fan assembly, I had to make that myself because the original fans didn't work ill explain it all in my how to mod a 360 with a mini Itx board post *****coming soon*****

project update time. I think now i have looked at a lot of stuff that I can stop researching except for the odds and ends that will link sections together. I need to get it typed up better. It is due on May 1st. that is a little over two weeks XD! time to get down to the grind stone and iron out the details 100%. well enough blogging for the moment I will update further in a day or so. until then ~Jacob

weekly blog 4-7-10

So a lot has happened! I got an internship at Interactive Intelligence. I am so excited about that. I hope that it helps me understand the real workplace, and allow me to unleash my full potential for them and prove I am a good pick. It will definitely be a interesting shift to go from random hours to a set 8-5 job. I don't think I'll have an issue adjusting, but at the same time it will be kinda nice to have my nights and weekends back.

for my project I am still gathering a lot of data, there is so much out there on the broadband plan. between surfing the web about Singapore and the USA plan. there is a lot of data emerging daily. Also I'll need to make sure to verify that the information is real and not propaganda. so far I'm seeing both sides of the story. people either love it or hate it there is really no in between. I think my power point slides may be more tailored to the numbers and ran data than information about the plan. since it will be in the paper. well back to the grind stone until next post ~Jacob

Wow what a week so far. I went for a group interview for an internship at Interactive Intelligence, Also it was like a walk through or tour of the facility. and it was simply amazing. I cannot want to find out if I will make it on the interns team. This would be a great gain for me in the world of computers. I will lean so much and it will definitely set me apart from other people in the job market at my age. I have been having to work a lot during spring break. not much free time actually. but to get ahead in the world we all have to pay our dues, and if I work my butt off Ill have my BS degree in December, and I already have my AS degree 100% for sure so I will walk in may! yea! I also need to try to get more free time, does anyone know how to turn a 24 hr day into a 36hr or 48hr day? If so please let me know! I want to do so much at this point in time my head is spinning. my to do list includes but is not limited to. Homework for my classes,. including my CIT 451 project which will be huge, I wish we could have started this week. I need to make more time to finalize and write my 49900 report more than what I have done so far. I need to meet with my counselor and finalize my last few classes for my schedule to graduate. I want to work on learning and cramming more knowledge into my heard for this Internship Interview. so I can brush up on some stuff. and make sure I am as sharp as I can be on what I should know. I need to also have time to still see my family friends, and my girlfriend. This may not seem like all that much but it is a lot to have on a plate at once for someone in my position and at my age. I hope it all works it will be amassing to see the outcome.

I am very happy

As for my broad band plan project I have been revising my plan further and am typing part of my proposal so I can submit it sooner then later to Dr. Thomas Ho.

Weekly Blog 3-12-10

Today is a Friday and I just got done dropping off my girlfriend to work at Brightpoint. I figured since I am already up I will Blog because it will help me organize my thoughts. I have recently been looking at BroadBand plans and proposals, also looking into cell phones and internet connections for my house. I have been also trying to revise my Proposal for #CIT49900 I hope this time around I am more focused and narrowed on the topic I will write my paper over so I can start it during Spring Break since I am stuck in Indiana. That is of course not a bad thing, but I want a break a week of what I want to do. Between Work, school, girlfriend, and my daily chores I have done nothing outside the norm like travel to a far away place. Now I love all three. Work gains the Experience needed to Get a better place in live, Education is the part that is setting me apart from others, and my girlfriend keeps me sane. I love her to death. My sister is going to Chicago I wish I could have gone, I keep joking with Kaye (my girlfriend) that I am going to kidnap her and take us on a one day road trip to Chicago. well time to read more broad band plan stuff!

I cannot believe it has been two weeks. I have not had a moment to myself. I totally didn't even realize I didn't blog for the last week. it is amazing how you can become tied up in to many different projects and tasks at once. This morning I was looking into broad band cards again to see exactly how the contracts work. I'm still reading over the two plans for the USA and Singapore Hopefully I will finish reading them soon as to start to compare and contrast. well I have to go to work, that is one reason I have had no free time they have been working me alot. I need to cut back on work so I don't go crazy. well working today 7 to 2 Ill blog more later.

Weekly Blog 2-23-10

Dr. Thomas Ho had a bright Idea on a good topic. "you ought to do a post on how the carriers' services would allow you to make better use of social media..." so i will.

I wonder how the world as a whole used places like Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Blogs and other social media? lets see!

With social media, we can connect, we can talk, communicate, socialize, and we can also provide information to those who desire to learn. in certain situations it may be the only way for a person to let the world know of a current event if their normal means of communication have been severed or squandered by a governing body or another, as we learned about in class.

I use social media to learn about topics i love, like Cisco, fiber optics, VOIP, Cloud Computing, VMWare, security, and many more!

so me personally can now with the use of social media look at and monitor new and upcoming news and current events

to be continued...

Sorry for the delay. I got cut off mid stream and had to hit publish so I could Leave to pickup my girlfriend from work before class. another side note IUPUI's wireless was down when I was at school yesterday so this is why I am continuing this now.

back on topic! => I can read about new and upcoming topics on the newest and latest and greatest things that are going to be developed and pushed into production. this gives me a unique advantage over others who use snail mail subscriptions like magazines, because even though magazines are good, they are already outdated by the time they are printed. and it takes about one week to a month to normally arrive. this is where social media can get you going. you can look and see instantly anywhere in the world about a topic that interests you and then join in a conversation to give your input.

Dr Thomas Ho said I should Narrow my Wide Field of Study on my course project down to a more specialized topic. and I do agree I was way out there, but I have always thought and dreamed Big. so as I stare at my Multi-Monitor setup I ponder.

He suggested "How about a CRITIQUE or analysis of the US National Broadband Plan by comparing to Singapore's iN2015?" this does seem like a very neat topic to look into because on the back end it still has to deal with all the topics I originally concerned myself. Here is what I originally Proposed:
***************************************************************************

CIT 49900 -Jacob Neitling

*Statement of requirements

how to make the USA connectivity better and more efficient

fiber optics

why this would make for a better USA and a better business model.

*implementation

existing lines

future growth

*compare two countries

USA ~ Japan /Singapore ?

*universal service

-restriction of access

-net neutrality

Internet 2 infrastructure

*underwater cables

-ownership *why have an owner? does it hurt or help)

-implication of global outage

*cloud computing infrastructure

-intellectual property law

-where the data is located?

-analyze countries vulnerability

o Deliverables

-power point

-written report

-charts tables and pictures

* References and other resources you will need to fulfill

-websites

-books

-people over seas

-people in the USA

-companies I interview

***************************************************************************

So after thinking about what I said I wanted to do and research and what Dr. Thomas Ho said, I agree National Broad Band is the way to go. It would appear this is a topic that can encapsulate many of the things I want to research. Alas, I need to Trim my proposal down and Harden it up to make it more compact and More precise. So lets take a look at some main points. the first point how to make the USA connectivity better and more efficient fiber optics, and why this would make for a better USA and a better business model.

really this should not be needed in the broad Band plan, even though on the back side it does deal with infrastructure I need not concern myself very in-depth about the physical architecture, i need to focus on how it will be delivered, and methods of delivery.

lets re write this as

how the USA Broad band plan compares to Singapore's. and how would they marked it to the public fairly?

this is a good start. next is future growth and i feel this is a needed topic to determine how it will be affected when the number of users jump from lets say 100,000 to 10,000,000. can the current infrastructure handle this traffic and still deliver what was originally promised in the proposal?

next we can compare two countries which would be USA and Singapore. Still using the Universal service and even restriction of access, and even better yet see if they have the right to filter information in and out of the countries like china does? also look into net neutrality and see how that would affect international laws?

I will completely omit the underwater cables part but I may still at lest mention it in the Infrastructure of the National broad Band proposal. how else do we communicated to another countries?

and just because I really want to I will still include the cloud and incorporate it into the Broad band plan. such as intellectual property law, where is your data located, and vulnerabilities as a countries? because broad band is a wireless technology, who is to say that on the border of the us and Canada that someone cannot use the Broad Band we have setup? look at other borders also? can this pose an issue maybe?

well this in a nutshell will be my rough new proposal now to Iron out the final details

Weekly Blog 2-16-10

this week has been a mess for me. there was so much going on i have not had a moment to breathe. first and foremost. i had to call ATT for my home internet connection and find out why the heck our internet was crap and so slow. then i asked about upgrading to U-Verse. not only for research for this class but so i could better enjoy the world through fiber optic connection XD. well long story short i was lied to on the phone *go figure* it would cost the same per month to have a 12 MB down and 3 MB up elite package for $75 but id have to pay 250 for install fees up front. i was like yea right. so I'm stuck on lame DSL ("darn" slow local-access) with 1 MB up and .3 MB down. speedtest.net confirms my wonderful connection. joy....

Next battle royal and epic endeavor was with Verizon. What a roller coaster, strap in for this one ladies and gentleman. so again more lies. and more social publicity junk. as you may know I wanted to get a droid so I could be more mobile with my computing and communication and also be more up to date with the way of the smart phone. Well according to Verizon. Neither me or anyone in my family plan can upgrade our phones until may 2011 without purchasing the phones outright for full retail value. Have you ever read the fine print for a phone without a contract? for the droid that is well over $500. This is SILLY! and to make it better I found out if I were to try to cancel my plan I would owe about the same as that, roughly $130 per each line and there are 4 lines. so I am basically stuck where I am not able to be very productive on the go.... Car computer here I come. I already have the core components the PSU, motherboard, ram , processor. I just need to make a case to fit in my car.

Ok now that I have vented back to CIT 49900:

this week, what you learned in class, well we talked more abot the proposal, and to be honest i though i would be well on my way with my smart phone talking about the joys of how we can be interconnected with fiber optics and all sorts of other neat things. but alas thoes plans fell through. the social media experiences for the week involved the above statments from ATT and Verizon. Some other really sad things were that my experiences with IT infrastructure products & services were hampered when my server i ordered a DL585 g1 with 8 cores and 16 gb of RAM came in from FED EX and was banged up bad. I will have to do an insurance clam on the product. that will be long and drawn out lucky me. for my progress on your course project, I am still getting all the details on the spisifics of the project together It is cruch time because I know my Professor wants it to him sooner than later.

* what you learned in class
this week we continued to learn more about the telco and

cableco structure and implementation. we discussed various types of

phones CDMA and GSM. we also talked about the project for our

class. we learned about unlocked and locked phones. talked about

Wireless Infastructure, also National Broad band was a topic we

covered.
* your social media experiences
I worked alot with twitter and I tried to play with more

google reader features such as adding alot of rss feeds so I could

become more informed about the various topics
* your experiences with IT infrastructure products & services
this week I worked on more VMWare virtulization and learend

alot about how to set up databses with SQL and I also played again

with VOIP asterix box. I attempted to learn about LDAP and Active

Directory AD. I know a little about them but not enough to make me

as employable as I hoped.
I continuede to look into an Android from verison but I am

still unsure if it would be worth getting at this stage in its

development.
* your progress on your course project
This week I thought about various topics and technologies

such as fiber, and wifi in the USA and in other countries.

Weekly Blog 1-28-10

Hello World! today is another page in history. I am still in cit 49900, and I think it is great it has helped me connect with people from the UK, especially answer some really great questions about some topics that i needed to learn more about. like VMware, and HP servers. those are just two small ways Twitter and TweekDeck have affected my life in the short run.
* what you learned in class
today we went over more Telecommunications i believe that today was the third installment of the lecture. we focused mainly on how there are two carriers, cable co and Telco.
* your social media experiences
I have engaged in conversation with people in other countries about IT related things and learned a little about the money exchange rate in the UK.
* your experiences with IT infrastructure products & services
I worked with VMware allot this week, also I worked on cleaning up my corner XD ill have to post a picture of my LAB it is kind of overkill but I love to be over the top Learning is the best way to make the world go around! I researched the IPhone because I want a phone that can browse the internet better then my Voyager. they are so expensive, plus I would have to switch carriers and I am mid contract... darn contracts... lol
* your progress on your course project
in reply to Dr Thomas Ho's statement "With respect to IT infrastructure, please concern yourself primarily with carriers, regulators, and other "players" IF you do discuss products, please do so in terms of HOW they interact with infrastructure services!" I think I will start to look into how the USA differs from EU nations with respect to how the infrastructure is laid out by discussing carriers and how the regulators affected the players. then why some had/have a much better competitive edge compared to other telecom providers.

Currently I am enrolled in cit 49900 and it has opened my eyes to the world of social media. and it is great! I didn't know that twitter could be used as productively as it has been. below are a list of some things I will touch on this week and most weeks.
* what you learned in class
I got a crash course on twitter, disqus, diigo, and the history of telecom. how to brand yourself with, this is an interesting topic because well it is something I didn't really ever think of until this class.
* your social media experiences
I have installed TweetDeck and also Seesmic Look. currently I am leaning towards TweetDeck because I like how it's layout is much cleaner then Seesmic Look. but both have its benefits. I will still use both for a while and see which i like better.
* your experiences with IT infrastructure products & services
this week i set up a Mac G4 with Tiger I believe. also I got my DL140G2 up and running for my VMware server XD i will probably install ESX on the box. I am currently running it through diagnostics to make sure the hardware is all 100% functional. ill know more once it is done.
* your progress on your course project
Currently i have only a few lines and a few websites gathered about what i am going to try to propose. I am still a little bit unclear as to exactly what I need to accomplish but it will work itself out.
